Bungendore Wood Works Gallery: A Final Chapter

To Our Bungendore Wood Works Gallery Family

For over 40 years, Bungendore Wood Works Gallery has been a place where Australia’s finest woodworkers and artists have showcased their works. With deep appreciation and a heavy heart, we share the difficult news that the Gallery will be closing its doors in early June 2025.

It has been our privilege to share the best in wood craft and art with visitors from across the country and around the world, bringing beauty to both the everyday and the extraordinary. We are deeply grateful for the makers, staff, and community who have made the gallery what it is today.

Why are we closing?

This decision has not been made lightly. After decades at the helm, Artistic Director and founder David Mac Laren OAM is ready for a well-deserved retirement. While he has explored succession options, sustaining a gallery of this scale has become increasingly challenging in today’s economic climate. Despite our best efforts, we have not found a viable path forward.

Visit before we close

With only a few months left, we invite you to visit one last time, experience the gallery’s legacy, and take home a piece of the craftsmanship that has made this place so special.

Whether you’ve had your eye on something special or simply want to support the artists and makers who have been part of our journey, we encourage you to stop by before our doors close in early June.

A heartfelt thank you

To the artists, visitors, supporters, and friends who have been part of this journey – thank you. Bungendore Wood Works Gallery has always been more than a space for fine craftsmanship; it has been a meeting place, a creative home, and a testament to the beauty of handmade work.

Though this chapter is ending, the gallery’s legacy will live on through the stories, connections, and artworks it has shared with the world.

David has stepped back from daily operations, but we know many of you have long-standing relationships with him. If you’d like to reconnect or share a conversation, please feel welcome to reach out – we know he would love to hear from you.
